new York

Haggi Sake Bar

A Japanese pub we've been going to for over 15 years! Everything is good, and quite affordable for Times Square. For a change from sake, try the soju!

Musical Comedy: Back to the Future

The very last performance in NY was on January 5, 2025, but any show on Broadway is worth it! For real.

Last minute ticket office TKTS

The TKTS ticket office, located at the back of the grand steps in Times Square, will allow you to get your hands on last-minute tickets at discounted prices.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Shady Maple Smorgasbord

The huge 200ft long Buffet, located in the heart of an Amish community, is recognized as the largest buffet in the United States!

It employs 750 people, and offers over 100 choices! I particularly liked the pulled pork and Alex, the peach crumble.

Alexandria, Virginia

King Street

Worthy of a Hallmark Christmas movie, this is a big favorite for me, even if on a December night, there was little action. A year-round visit, but probably more in the summer!

Alice Cocktail Bar Restaurant

This bar, located on the 2nd floor of a restaurant, is a real discovery. The cocktails were as delicious as they were fabulously decorated, and the food, Asian-inspired, fresh and tasty.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream

On our way out of Alice's, we came across an ice cream shop, surprisingly busy for a December evening. We understood why at first lick! Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream has several locations in the United States, and even offers lactose-free and gluten-free options!

Myrtle Beach South Carolina

The deserted beach in the morning.

It was our first time in Myrtle Beach, and we pretty much had it all to ourselves. A moment of tranquility and great beauty.

TOP GOLF

Go "hit balls" Version 3.0, that's Top Golf. Each group has its own little lounge area like a 5 to 7, can order drinks and food, and hit balls according to the games offered on the screen. It's unifying, for all ages, and really fun!

Somewhere in Georgia

The Hew Restaurant

Thanks to Google Maps, we discovered a little gem of a family restaurant, on Highway 95 in Georgia, heading towards Florida. Hew means "hungry" in Thai. We were not disappointed! Alex's Bulgogy beef was to die for.

On the way to Florida

Buccaneers Jamaican Street Jerk

In Orange Park, just south of Jacksonville, Buccaneers Jamaican Street Jerk Shack was a great find in a city where options other than fried food were scarce.

Miami

The District design

Miami is where we spent the most time. We rented a house in the Design District for 7 days, and we fell in love with it!

Art everywhere!

The artistic storefronts of luxury boutiques, the outdoor art on almost every corner, the free Botero exhibit in a park, and the more traditional art galleries, this neighborhood charmed us all! We felt safe, and we felt like we were living like locals.

This is a multi-level parking lot. When you want to, everything can be beautiful to look at.

The Everglades

Excursions to the land of the Alligators

This excursion is worth experiencing once in your life. The ideal is to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and sunny weather is preferable, because when it is sunny, that is when the alligators come out to sunbathe. They literally run on solar energy! We went at 11am in the morning, and the sun had just come out: we were luckier than the visitors who had preceded us: we saw 5!

We highly recommend Everglades AirBoat Expedition. Our guide was an encyclopedia on the subject, he couldn't have been more passionate!

Miami Beach

Art Deco buildings

Less than a 30-minute drive from the Design District is South Beach, a place frozen in time. Art Deco buildings, Ocean Drive, the beach, the sea, it's all there! Very touristy, but very beautiful!

New Orleans, Louisiana

The architecture of houses

We spent 4 days in New Orleans, and we were not bored. For architecture fans, it is an incomparable place. The huge, well-maintained, slightly colored houses are magnificent to discover, on foot or by Street Car!

Brennan's Restaurant can boast of having invented the banana flambé!

U

Central City BBQ

We discovered this place on the way back from the Museum. Next to the highway, you should know that this restaurant exists, but it is very famous among BBQ lovers.

A meal worthy of Texas, but enjoyed in Louisiana!

Honorable mention to the "corn ball", which tasted like fresh corn from Quebec at the end of summer. Yum!!!

The Boil Sea Food House

Our meal on the 31st, worthy of Louisiana!

The St-Charles Street Car

This is the oldest tram line still in operation in the world! The starting point is at the corner of Carondelet and Canal streets, and the journey takes about an hour, allowing you to see a large part of the city, without walking.

Donuts: The Vintage

Café du Monde is probably the most popular place to try the famous beignets, but not necessarily the best. We tried The Vintage instead, on Magazine Street, and we were delighted! You have to like sugar in POURDRE .

Austin Texas

The Velveeta room / comedy club

The local comedians we heard in Austin made us laugh more than the ones we saw in New York! The venue has about 50 seats, which gives it an intimate atmosphere.

Ester's Follies

This vaudeville "revue" made us laugh a lot. It mixes songs, sketches, magic and dance and has been on the bill for 50 years!

The Mini Put Holey Molly

27 indoor holes each with their own theme, that's a sport! We had a blast. It's a place where you can eat, drink, play board games, there are private karaoke rooms, an outdoor terrace, you can easily spend the day there!

VooDoo Donuts

Okay, we admit it! We were a little weak in the knees at the VooDoo Donuts sign! The banner, originally from Portland Oregon, has 19 locations, including the one in Austin Texas that we visited.

The choices are very diverse. Honestly, you can't really go wrong. But we didn't risk it, we did a semi "When in doubt, take everything"!

Velvet Tacos

Apparently, people in Austin literally eat lunch at Tacos... We had a blast! And we later learned that it's a chain, so you can find them in different locations across the United States.

All over the Southern United States

Buc-ees

If you come across one of these gas stations/truck stops on your way to the US, STOP! It's huge, the restrooms are clean and plentiful, they have their own brand of food: beef jerky, nuts, fudge, they cook brisket on site, and make sandwiches with it. Go for it. It's an attraction in itself. Oh, and you can get gas at one of the 120 pumps available...

Memphis

The BB King Blues Club

Our only night in Memphis was a huge success thanks to the BB King Blues Club. The food was really good for such a touristy place, but if we had been served porridge we would have been satisfied: the band was fantastic, and since the venue closed at 8pm that night, for the employees' party, there were only about 15 of us enjoying a quasi-private show. An address to remember!

3 tips in closing:

  • Google Map is your best friend for finding highly rated restaurants and attractions, and for saving your favorite finds.
  • Booking.com for booking hotels, condos, houses, it's hard to beat for price.
  • Putting our GPS in "no toll roads / TOLLS" mode allows us to avoid tolls, and takes us through pretty village roads. A great way to see something other than motorways.
